Crane pulley wheels are one of the important components of ovehread and gantry cranes. They play a vital role in the process of lifting and moving heavy objects. Pulley wheel blocks enable easier and more efficient load management by changing the direction of force and increasing the number of points. A pulley block usually consists of multiple pulleys (or blocks) mounted on a frame and connected by wire ropes. The pulleys can be fixed (fixed pulleys) or movable (movable pulleys). Fixed pulleys are mainly used to change the direction of force, while movable pulleys can reduce the required pulling force because they spread the load.

How Crane Pulley Wheel Works?

• Fixed pulleys: Change the direction of a force without changing its magnitude. For example, when you pull down on a rope, it can cause an object hanging on the other end to move upward.
• Moving pulleys: Not only do they change the direction of the force, they also reduce the amount of force required by distributing it to more points. The moving pulley moves with the load.
• Compound pulley systems: Using a combination of multiple fixed and moving pulleys can significantly reduce the amount of force required to lift a load, but requires pulling the rope a longer distance.

Pulley diameter (D): usually 20-30 times the wire rope diameter (e.g. D ≥ 20d) to reduce the bending stress of the wire rope.

Rope groove size: needs to match the wire rope diameter to avoid extrusion or de-groove.

Bearing type: rolling bearing (high efficiency) or sliding bearing (impact resistant).

Safety factor: generally not less than 4:1 (breaking load/working load).
